| My work is one of pure perspective: I document humanity within the natural world as experienced by disparate and often remote cultures. The images are storied, often colorful and sometimes barren or bleak. Throughout, I try to capture unique human moments, ones streaked with cultural significance or bearing its indelible signature. I was born in India and came to New York at the age of sixteen to join my sister. As a first generation immigrant and in keeping with my parents’ wishes, I persevered in academics, graduating from New York’s top universities and achieving professional success in corporate America within a short period of time. However, a little less than a decade into my “well-planned” career, I began to question my accomplishments in the context of self-identity and my place in a world that was largely foreign to me. My curiosity led me to reconnect with my cultural roots and although photography had taken a long hiatus since my years growing up, I picked up the camera again. It made me feel liberated and I began toying with the idea of becoming a photographer one day. In the years that followed, I spent countless hours in the company of world-class New York photographers and started shooting projects for local clients in addition to relentlessly creating personal work. The distinct sense of professionalism that I cultivated in my corporate life began to show and I eventually landed a contract with a major photo agency that helped me muster enough courage to quit the day job and hit the road. Shooting almost everyday over the course of a year in twenty-five countries taught me important lessons and transformed me as a photographer and, to some extent, who I am as an individual. My work now regularly appears in numerous US and international publications in addition to being exhibited in several venues in New York City. I continue to create new work and live in Manhattan with my wife Jean. Select Publications (Print and Online): NationalGeographic.com, BBC.com, Photo District News, BudgetTravel Magazine, Art Etc.
